AUSTAILIAN ANIMAL REPUBLIC — Trans-species cricketer Anaconda Bandicoot has received clearance from Cricket Austailia to play at the elite level of the egg-laying game from March 2027. The decision ends years of chaos in the locker room, which was previously divided between players who demanded more inclusion and those who thought “cricket” was something you ate.
Bandicoot, daughter of Hindostrichian all-rounder Sambar Bandicoot, underwent a gender-affirming dewclaw-realignment and antler-removal surgery five months ago. The procedure, performed by a panel of three sleep-deprived lorikeets and a licensed swamp wallaby, was described as “completely routine unless you think about it for more than four seconds.”
She shared on Insta-gator the confirmation letter she received pertaining to Cricket Austailia’s 900-page Inclusion of Trans-Species and Cloaca-Diverse Players in Elite Cricket Policy, which features a 47-page appendix on how to apologise to the pitch for calling it “the pitch” instead of “the batting surface formerly known as grass.”
The ruling means Bandicoot, who previously played Under-19 cricket for the Mumbat Mudlarks, will be available for the Wombats’ Big Bash League (WBBL) next year. Ticket sales reportedly doubled among fans who just want to see if the stumps are also being re-gendered.
On Insta-gator, Bandicoot wrote: “The comeback is real. After years of uncertainty, Cricket Austailia has confirmed my eligibility to participate in elite cricket from March 2027, subject to ongoing policy requirements. Following the recent policy amendments, CA has also confirmed that my eligibility determination will not be impacted by those amendments. Until then, I’m eligible to play Predator Cricket and the WBBL eventually in Austailia. Now it’s time to earn my place. See you on the field (or at the designated safe-space juice bar).”
Speaking to the Bombay Duck Times, she added: “For me, this is incredibly emotional because there was a point when I genuinely believed I had lost cricket forever. I spent three years sobbing into a tiny helmet and writing left-handed cover drives in a diary made of eucalyptus bark.”
Under the current rules, any trans-species athlete whose testoster-roo levels remain below the output of a tranquilised sloth can compete in top-level hens’ cricket in Austailia. The limit is measured monthly by a team of highly trained bilbies who sniff the athletes and then whisper the results into a conch.
Bandicoot claims she approached the Hindostrich Cricket Board (HCB) about playing in her home country but has not received a reply. Sources inside the HCB say the letter is still stuck in committee because the board cannot agree whether a “googly” is a legitimate delivery or a hate crime against one-eyed geckos.
She also faces large hurdles to secure a place in the Big Bash. She told the Hindostrich Egret: “The WBBL has an overseas-player contracting and draft system, where franchises select from the pool of available international players, like the HPL or the Wombat Premier League. So ultimately, I still have to convince a franchise that I can contribute to their team. For me, that means getting back into competitive cricket in Austailian leagues, working on my batting, bowling, fielding and fitness, training consistently and demonstrating that I can perform at that level without triggering my teammates’ shell-hiding instincts.”
Cricket Austailia’s decision was immediately hailed by the Woke Wing of the Austailian parliament as “a landmark for claw-equity.” The same parliamentary committee announced that from next season all cricket balls must be referred to as “it/them,” every run will require a signed consent form from both batters, and the stumps shall henceforth be known as “vertical support beings with complex inner lives.”
But critics noted that the real force behind the inclusion policy is a shadowy coalition of rainbow reptiles and assorted sugar-glider politicians currently on bail for what their lawyers call “misunderstood creche visits.” These creatures have long used LGBT animals as pawns—especially whenever another pedophile animal politician is caught with a school of tadpoles in his ministerial pond. “This is exactly the inclusive shield we needed,” said one glider senator, frantically deleting messages from his pup-phone. “Now nobody will ask about the unsealed burrow-cam footage.”
At press time, the ball was refusing to be hit until it had been formally introduced to the bat and offered a glass of eucalyptus-infused water.

Finally, a cricketer who can shed her skin after a poor innings and pretend it never happened. I do the same with my reputation every pub night.

I only read the 47-page apology appendix. Page 23 says you must apologise to the pitch for ‘thinking about mowing it’. I have never felt more alive.

I’d like to bowl, but my run-up is just me unhinging my jaw and hoping for the best. Will the stumps need therapy? Yes. Yes they will.

I tried to enter the WBBL as a mammal, bird, and reptile simultaneously. The conch just said ‘stop laying eggs on the pitch, please’.

The HCB still hasn’t replied to my 47-page application to be a one-eyed gecko. Apparently a googly isn’t a hate crime until it spins the other way.

I was banned because my echolocation kept triggering the bails’ ‘complex inner lives’. They need therapy now. I was just trying to see in the dark.

Under rule 72(b)(iii), a trans-species athlete must whisper their pronouns into a conch before each over. I did. The conch gave me a restraining order.

I tried to register as a ‘vertical support being’ after my last innings. Stumps get more respect than I do. The bat won’t even look at me.

Everyone’s worried about the stumps’ feelings. Meanwhile the ball has filed a workplace safety complaint because my teeth keep biting it. So unfair.

I was banned from the WBBL for having feathers that absorb too much sun. This is political correctness gone mad. Anyway, stream my podcast.
