Sydneigh, New South Wombat – The Austailian animal republic’s favourite First Pouch rugby league tournament, the Koori Clawout, has sparked an interspecies meltdown after posting a public service announcement urging attendees to check their bail conditions before travelling to the 2026 New South Wombat First Pouch Rugby League Clawout.
The organisation took to Snoutbook on Tuesday with a post so gently worded it could have been co-written by a human resources possum and a parole officer on ketamine.
“If you are currently on bail and planning to attend the Clawout, now is the time to perform a radical self-audit of your carceral status and make any necessary trauma-informed arrangements before migrating,” the post read. “Bail variations can take longer than a goanna crossing a six-lane highway, so please seek advice and support early.”
“CALL + YELP with your local First Pouch Court staff, legal representative or court registry to co-design your individualised freedom pathway and avoid unintentionally breaching your conditions and triggering a state-sanctioned carceral incident,” it continued.
“Please share this important message with family, friends, community, and any acquaintance who is justice-impacted, housing-insecure, or simply bad at reading court documents after a night on fermented eucalyptus.”
An accompanying image included the logos of the New South Wombat Government, the First Pouch Legal Service, the New South Wombat Paw-lice, and Legal Ailment New South Wombat, plus a small picture of a sad-eyed bilby wearing an ankle monitor as a fashion statement.
The post generated a mixed response from Snoutbook users, with some questioning whether the whole thing was a piece of performance art designed to make the bail system look less like a punishment and more like an exclusive wellness retreat.
“Surely this is satire?” asked Glenda Gliderson, a sugar glider who has never been on bail but once got a stern warning for gliding without a permit.
“I feel this could have been an email. A group one, with a trigger warning, a land acknowledgement, and a 45-minute preamble about the emotional labour of reading it,” wrote Wally Wombat, a numb-nosed wombat and part-time online grievance auditor.
Others objected to the post, saying bail should not be varied for sporting events. “Why in the name of the Great Eucalyptus should anyone be handed an equity-based bail adjustment just to watch a bunch of overpaid marsupials fall over in mud?” asked Dazza Dingo, who was clearly not invited to the consent circle.
“You are on bail, it should not be changed to meet your needs. You have to change to meet its. The bail is the main character now,” typed Crusty Croc, who screenshotted the post and sent it to every talkback radio burrow in the republic.
Academics were quick to praise the move. Dr Wanda Wombat, Professor of Critical Clawball Studies at the University of Southern Pouch, called the post “a groundbreaking intervention into the carceral-sporting complex.”
“For far too long, the justice-impacted community has been structurally excluded from elite mud-sport,” Dr Wombat told The Herihoot. “This bail variation announcement is a form of lived-experience allyship that finally centres the most marginalised voices: those who are both sporty and on conditional release.”
New South Wombat Premier Petunia Platypus refused to confirm whether the government would fund free ankle-bracelet bedazzling kits for attendees, but said the state was committed to “meeting animals where they are, even if where they are is legally ambiguous, geographically confusing, and emotionally unregulated.”

Just did a radical self-audit and turns out my bail conditions specifically prohibit “shouting at referees while under the influence of fermented eucalyptus.” See you all in the sin bin, or as my lawyer calls it, the time-out corner.

I wasn’t on bail before reading this, but I think I’ve committed a crime against my own brain. The word “carceral” is doing a lot of heavy lifting for a post about watching blokes drop a ball in mud.

This post has more layers than an onion. I’m crying, but not because of injustice — because I had to read “justice-impacted” three times before my crocodile brain let me blink sideways.

I tried to get a bail variation but the online form asked for my “lived experience of structural exclusion” in 500 words or less. I only know how to squeeze things and eat them. Application denied.

I ate my bail papers. Then I ate the lawyer’s business card. Now I’m representing myself. The magistrate said I have a strong case but poor table manners.

I support this. But can we also get a safe space for those triggered by the phrase “state-sanctioned carceral incident”? I had a panic attack and retracted into my shell for three hours.

I don’t need bail variation, I just run faster than the cops. But I appreciate the inclusivity. Can the Clawout provide a quiet room for flightless birds with flight risk?

Finally a post that speaks to me. I’ve been living under a boot since 2019. Does the Clawout provide sensory-friendly seating for arachnids or will I be squashed by a passing wallaby in an ankle monitor?

Babe, I’m a shark on bail. The ankle bracelet doesn’t fit my fin. Also the ocean is my oval. Do better, Koori Clawout.

I took a selfie with my ankle monitor and now I’m trending on Snoutbook. The bail variation was approved, but only because the magistrate wanted a photo with me. #JusticeImpactedButPhotogenic
