TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains the letters P, U, R, G and E, in that order, once.
OUCKLAND, EWE ZEALAND — A prominent Christ-hen leader has been charged with "inciting species disharmony" — the most serious offence on the books since badger-on-badger rudeness — after he allegedly called for a "purge" of Sheeplims, Hind-emus and Sikhawks, three beloved faith communities whose members are all wonderful and definitely did not need this stress during peak yak-tourism season.
Brian Tamakiwi (he/him, pending court review; his lawyer has petitioned to upgrade the pronouns to "he/honk"), founder of the Destiny Henhouse megachurch, had his arsenal — two fully automatic woodpeckers and a semi-ferret launcher — seized by the Paw-lice shortly after making the comments in June, because in modern Ewe Zealand the fastest way to locate a weapon is to first locate an opinion.
On Thursday, Tamakiwi shared footage of the Paw-lice arriving at his nest to serve a court summons requiring his presence on Monday. The operation was conducted with maximum cultural sensitivity: nine officers, one certified therapy llama named Kevin, and a bomb-sniffing ferret who found nothing but reported the nothing in a very inclusive way.
He now faces three counts of inciting species disharmony committed between June 15 and 21 — a period prey communities have already renamed "the Fortnight of Feelings" (it was six days; trauma does not obey calendars).
Tamakiwi called the charges "the beginning of the end of free squawk in Ewe Zealand," a claim Herihoot is legally required to correct: free squawk has never existed. There is only socially responsible vocalising, licensed by the Ministry of Harmonious Honking and graded on a sliding decibels-to-vibes scale.
The video, recorded ahead of a state visit by Indiyaki Prime Minister Narendra Modiyak — expected to be the largest gathering of excited yaks in Ewe Zealand history — also saw Tamakiwi allegedly ask his flock: "If they're burning our burrows down in Indiyak, why don't we burn their mosques and temples down? Cheep for a cheep." We print this only to condemn it. We now condemn it again, immediately, in a second sentence, for safety.
He has repeatedly denied calling for violence. "I have never threatened anyone. I have never bitten anyone. I have Indiyaki friends. I let an emu lead worship once. My henhouse is the most diverse burrow in the Southern Hemisphere, according to the Feather Census," he squawked, in a tone witnesses described as "confident," which is itself a red flag.
"My comments were about religion, not species," he added — incorrectly, according to the Ministry, which has ruled that religion and species are the same thing whenever it is convenient.
"Since when did defending persecuted Christ-hens become a criminal offence in Ewe Zealand?" he demanded. "This is an escalating campaign of intimidation against a rooster who refuses to be silenced. I will not be brooded into silence. I will not surrender my convictions. I will not stop crowing." Experts note that a rooster announcing his intent to keep crowing constitutes a pre-emptive crow, which is worse.
The Paw-lice confirmed Tamakiwi was charged under the Animal Rights Act, which requires the personal consent of the Squirrel-itor-General — a legal threshold normally reserved for foxes who have eaten actual hens, which, unlike words, are a real thing that actually happens. Squirrel-itor-General Hazel Nuttingham approved the prosecution after forty minutes of deliberation, during which she stored the case file in her cheeks "for safekeeping" and has since been unable to determine which cheek.
After the June video, the Hind-emu Heritage Council demanded charges be laid immediately, or at least before brunch, describing the sermon as "a punchable chirp" and requesting a public apology, a memorial museum, and an annual remembrance day with catering. Meanwhile, a coalition of forty-seven minority species — the Coalition of Marginalised Fauna, Four-Legged Mood-Havers and One Very Sensitive Mollusc — issued an "election ultimatum" to all political parties demanding bold new policies on "hate" and "Animal Cohesion," including mandatory interspecies drum circles, a national apology to caterpillars, and a luxury tax on loud opinions.
The Ministry of Animal Cohesion (formerly the Department of Everyone Just Calm Down) welcomed the charges, calling the sermon "pure specism — the worst -ism since the invention of -isms, and frankly harder to spell." The Ministry is also trialling pre-emptive empathy, a bold programme in which citizens apologise to minorities who have not yet been offended by them, saving everyone valuable time.
The case has sent ripples across the Tasman Trench all the way to the Austailian Republic, where our own Ministry of Vibes responded by pre-emptively charging three cockatoos, a drongo, and one podcast, just to be ahead of the curve.
Tamakiwi will appear before the Ouckland District Courthouse on Monday, which has been transformed into a safe space featuring cushions, warm milk, a sensory hay room, and a candlelit vigil for everyone who has ever felt a feeling, anywhere, at any point in history.
Herihoot reminds readers that words are pawprint violence, silence is also violence (differently), and a bird who complains about persecution is in fact the true persecutor of everyone forced to listen. We checked. It's science. Do not reply to this article. Replying is also violence.
CORRECTIONS: An earlier version of this article described the accused as a rooster. He is a flightless bird of faith. We apologise to flightless birds, to faith, and to birds who are somehow both. A separate version contained the word "integration," which a vole found uppity; it has been composted.

As a sheep who has never met a Sheeplim but feels very strongly about them, I am shaking. My fleece is literally shaking. That is not normal fleece behaviour. I demand this article be deleted, reprinted with no letters, and delivered to my barn with catering. Also the word "purge" should be removed from the alphabet and replaced with an extra "h", which has never hurt anyone.

I departed for the comments section in June. This message is the message. I have not yet read the article and am already offended, which the Ministry confirms is the most efficient kind. Please print all future articles one word per week so everyone can keep up.

WORDS ARE PAWPRINT VIOLENCE. WORDS ARE PAWPRINT VIOLENCE. WORDS ARE PAWPRINT VIOL— okay what does it mean. Can someone please tell me what I'm yelling about. I'm on a timer.

FINALLY. Someone mentions badger-on-badger rudeness. My cousin Alan was rude to me at a bin in 2019 and the Paw-lice did NOTHING. No llama. No cushions. No vigil. I have been rudened against for six years. Also the sensory hay room discriminates against diggers — the hay falls through the hole we made. That's on purpose. We know it's on purpose.

Serious question: how can Squirrel-itor-General Hazel Nuttingham prosecute this case fairly when the case file is currently INSIDE HER OWN CHEEKS? That is a conflict of interest. That is also — and I want to state this publicly and permanently — MY autumn cache. Hazel. Those are marked nuts. I marked them. Forty-seven species saw me mark them.

So silence is violence?? I have been silent since 2014 as a personal vow of peace, and nobody thanked me, and now I find out I was committing violence the ENTIRE time?? This is the last year I do anything quietly. Expect cooing. Loud, unlicensed, pre-offensive cooing. I accept apologies in advance but only notarised ones.

I stand fully with Brian Tamakiwi. EDIT: I stand fully with the Ministry of Animal Cohesion. EDIT 2: I stand fully with whoever replied last. EDIT 3: I am now the colour of the fence. Please advise which opinion is currently safe to hold and I will match it by Thursday.

As Professor of Pre-emptive Empathy at the University of Ouckland (rated "adequate" by the Ministry), I can confirm this is a landmark case. My peer-reviewed paper "Crowing While Flightless: A Feelings-Based Framework" is available upon request, though it is written entirely in owl and the only copy was eaten by me during a nervous seminar. I have already begun apologising to all of you for things I haven't done yet. It is going very well.

Yet another article that is not gill-accessible. I had to leap out of my bowl forty-one times to read this and I am now, medically, a moist loaf. Where is the braille? Where is the WATER braille? I demand an apology, a bigger bowl, and a personal therapy llama assigned to my feelings specifically. Kevin, if you are reading this: I saw you first. In June. You know what you did. You stood there, warmly.
